They couldn't tell us
Because they didn't know.
But they believed, and still believe
Left unspoken, but it does show.
We were never taught
What belief was and meant
Or how to read what was implied...
To decode messages unsent.
Because they can't speak
about the things they know
with the clarity and credence
we are always ready to show…
Despite their sacrifices,
we look down on them
So reasonably and easily
As we fail to understand them.
